On December 28, 2009, Steven Clifford (former CEO, King Broadcasting Company) published a humorous post on Huffington Post regarding the federal estate tax -- Parents: Watch Out in 2010. He opens with the following: "Senior citizens fear that congressional gridlock will cause terminal health problems. The worry is not Medicare; it is the estate tax."
Clifford lists a number of "guidelines" for parents. My favorite are the following:
- If your children visit you in 2010:
o Hide all knives, ice picks, and other sharp instruments
o Hide all sledge hammers, ice axes, and other blunt instruments
o Hide yourself
- Beware if you smell almonds. Cyanide smells like almonds.
- Beware if you don't smell almonds. Arsenic is odorless.
- If your children text or tweet while you are driving, do not text back.
